Meet Imogen – our first ever apprentice!
We are thrilled to announce we have signed up our first ever apprentice under the school-based NSW Apprenticeship system. Imogen Webster is almost 16 years old and a student of Eden Marine High School. Our contribution to her studies will be to provide Imogen with hands-on experience in the field of ecotourism. We hope she enjoys it!!
She’ll be studying for the next two (2) years to achieve a Certificate III in Tourism through TAFE NSW. We reckon she’ll blitz it! Imogen recently did a stint at work experience with the team at Cruise Eden – the representative body that manages all aspects of the visiting cruise ships in the Port of Eden. Imogen’s dad Paul works in the maritime industry for NSW Port Authority and is heavily involved when cruise ships come into port, so it was just a natural progression for Imogen to have an interest in that field.
We’ve known Imogen’s family for a while. Her sisters and she are all into soccer and so are we, so we’ve cheered on the Eden ladies team for several years together.
“I’m super excited to start my apprenticeship as a learner tour guide, I plan to learn as much as I can and hope fully be employed full-time in a tourism business once I finish school.” [Imogen]
Imogen will be helping in all aspects of the huge and diverse workload of a small tour operator business: welcoming guests, assisting during kayak tours including preparation and clean up, social media and editing images, learning the ropes of guiding and maybe even helping with some simple book-keeping.
So we’re pretty excited. Not only is it wonderful to be able to help a young local student to achieve their career goals – but it will be fantastic for us to have an extra pair of hands to help through the busy summer months.
